While not really frequently asked questions, here are some tips and tricks that
you may not know about. This page will have to do until some real documentation is written. If
you have any questions not answered here, please contact me.
faq
magTool
You can run magTool from the command line by typing "magtool".
Right-click on the window to display the context menu.
When magTool has focus, rolling the mouse wheel changes the zoom factor
and the arrow keys pan the magnified area.
magTool may affect system performance when viewing a large area of the screen. To increase performance, try:
Shrinking the size of the window, even if only in one dimension
Increasing the zoom factor
Using a slower update interval
When creating custom color formats, the strings "rrr", "ggg", and "bbb" will be replaced by the decimal red, green, and blue
values. The strings "RR", "GG", and "BB" will be replaced by the
hexadecimal red, green, and blue values. Any other
string will be preserved. Note that the color strings listed above are case-sensitive; the string "rr" will be used
unchanged.
folder comparator
You can run folder comparator from the command line by typing "comparator". You can specify the directories to compare
as command-line arguments -- the first argument is the source directory, the second is the destination.
You can drag and drop folders onto the source or destination areas.
The "Include 2-Second Slack For Dates" option is provided because some file systems can only resolve a file's date to within two
seconds. If unchecked, this can result in files being reported as different when they are not. If this option is
checked, files will be reported as different only if the date is more than two seconds off (assuming you're comparing some
date).
Right clicking on a single file, or group of files in the same folder,
will bring up the Explorer context menu plus the Tools menu items. If
a group of files are in different folders, only the Tools menu items are
shown.
datetime stamper
You can run datetime stamper from the command line by typing "stamper". Items passed as command-line
arguments are automatically added to the list.
You can drag and drop files and folders onto the main list area.
The "Sync Folder Created Date" option automatically sets a folder's created date to the last modified date when
stamping. Explorer shows the Date Created for folders; so this is a nice way to see that folders have been stamped.
Right clicking on a single file, or group of files in the same folder,
will bring up the Explorer context menu plus the "Open Containing Folder"
menu item. If a group of files are in different folders, the file
context menu is not shown.
sendTo anotherFolder
Run the program without parameters to set options,
or to recreate the SendTo shortcut. To do this, either double-click
the executable or launch the "anotherfolder settings" shortcut created
during Setup.
